If you’re looking to find everything about destination weddings in Thailand, you’re in the right place.

As a destination wedding photographer who loves traveling the world to capture beautiful love stories, I wanted to share all the essential info about getting married in Thailand.

There’s just something magical about Thailand: the rich culture, lush greenery, and breathtaking beaches. So, if Thailand is your dream and you’re curious about everything from Thailand wedding venues to what documents you’ll need, keep reading!

A glimpse into destination weddings in Thailand

Mmm, lush greenery, rich culture, streets filled with color, food bursting with flavor, and luxurious jungle resorts, all wrapped in the warmth of Thai hospitality. That’s just a glimpse of what Thailand has to offer.

If you decide to get married here, you can choose from a dreamy tropical mountain wedding or a beachfront ceremony with stunning views.

You can also weave in traditional Thai rituals to make your wedding even more special, like the Monk Blessing Ceremony or the Water Pouring Ceremony, where guests pour water over your hands as a symbol of blessing.

And the best part? Thailand is also one of the most open-minded countries in Southeast Asia, so if you’re planning an LGBTQ wedding, you can freely and legally celebrate your love here.

Plus, your high-end wedding will probably cost a fraction of the price compared to Western countries.

Where is the best place to have a wedding in Thailand?

Since Thailand is such a big country with countless beautiful spots, I’ve narrowed it down to some of the most popular locations, plus a few of my personal favorites that are a bit off the beaten path (like Chiang Rai).

This way, you can avoid the big tourist crowds and explore places that still hold onto that true Thai spirit.

Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai is a charming mountain town in northern Thailand, famous for its iconic White Temple. While that’s the main draw for many, there’s so much more to this peaceful town.

You can explore off-the-beaten-path adventures, savor the best local food, visit elephant sanctuaries, or simply unwind in a resort, soaking in the scenic landscape.

Venue of choice: Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle

If you’re an adventurer and nature lover looking for something truly unique, this venue is for you.

During your wedding stay at the Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle, you and your guests can hike through bamboo jungles, and spend time with rescued elephants.

And in between all that, you can take in views of Laos and Myanmar, all while enjoying a luxurious, all-inclusive glamping experience.

For your wedding day, start off with spa and Thai beauty treatments in your private tent before exchanging vows with stunning views of the Golden Triangle, where Burma, Laos, and Thailand meet.

To make it even more special, you’ll receive a sacred blessing from nine monks during the ceremony. Can it get any more magical? If you’d like more info, check out their packages here.

Chiang Mai

Another northern gem, Chiang Mai is famous for its mountain top temples, lush green landscapes, and incredible food.

You can immerse yourself in the rich Thai culture within the city or venture out into nature, exploring mountain top temples, swimming in waterfalls, and even bathing elephants.

If a wedding in a tropical mountain setting, with fresh air, epic sunsets, and lots of nature sounds like a dream, along with high-end resorts, you’ll absolutely love Chiang Mai.

Venue of choice: Panviman Chiang Mai Spa Resort

At Panviman Chiang Mai Spa Resort, you can enjoy a beautiful wedding ceremony surrounded by lush mountains and host a reception that stretches into the night, all in the peaceful and serene setting of this resort.

Imagine soaking in the backdrop of towering peaks, and even staying in a villa that echoes the traditional temple architecture, complete with its own towering peak.

With high-quality wedding packages and breathtaking hillside venues, Panviman Chiang Mai Spa Resort offers the perfect mix of nature meets luxury, making it an unforgettable spot for your magical day.

Krabi

Let’s head down south to Krabi, a place famous for its stunning coral reef vistas, some of the most beautiful in the world. It’s a prime spot for coral diving, and you’ll also find hot springs, a wildlife sanctuary, sea caves, vibrant reefs, and exotic marine life.

Krabi’s dramatic limestone cliffs attract rock climbers from around the globe, while its crystal-clear waters and laid-back southern vibes make it perfect for couples seeking an adventurous yet luxurious wedding destination.

Venue of choice: Rayavadee

Rayavadee is a fairytale-like venue located on the Phranang Peninsula, surrounded by coconut groves, beaches, the Andaman Sea, and jungle-covered cliffs.

For your wedding, you can add a touch of Thai culture by saying “I do” with a traditional Sai Mongkol ceremony or a Buddhist monk blessing, or even both for a truly immersive experience.

Nature lovers will adore Rayavadee, as the hotel places a strong emphasis on sustainability and conservation, protecting the area’s natural beauty, marine life, and bird species.

Koh Samui

If you’re wondering, Which island in Thailand is the best to get married? Koh Samui is your top choice.

As Thailand’s third-largest island and the biggest in an archipelago of over 80 islands, including the Ang Thong National Marine Park, it’s a true paradise.

For adventurers, it’s a diving and kayaking haven. And compared to its more popular competitor, Phuket, Koh Samui offers fewer crowds, more untouched natural beauty, and less development, perfect for a more serene and intimate wedding experience.

Venue of choice – Conrad Koh Samui

The Conrad Koh Samui is easily one of the best wedding venues in all of Thailand. If you’re dreaming of a tropical paradise to say your “I do’s,” this spot is pure luxury.

This place won several awards, including a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence in 2017 and Asia’s Leading Honeymoon Resort in 2015.

Surrounding the venue you’ll find lush coconut plantations, and a beautiful contrast of tropical forests and the pristine white beaches.

It’s also one of the larger venues, accommodating up to 200 guests, so it’s perfect for those wanting to celebrate with a big group of loved ones.

The best part? You can have your ceremony on a transparent stage overlooking the ocean! And if you’re planning a wedding during the rainy season, don’t worry. They’ve got a gorgeous indoor location as well, so you can still have your dream wedding day.

When is the best time of year for weddings in Thailand?

This all depends on what you’re looking for, but if you’re planning an outdoor celebration, the cool season is your best bet. From November to February, you’ll find the most pleasant weather for a wedding in Thailand.

The temperatures are mild and comfortable, with lower humidity, which is perfect for an outdoor ceremony.

From March to July, it’s still the dry season, but the weather can be a bit too hot for some. And for the romantics who love the idea of saying “I do” while dancing in the rain, July to October could be a magical time, though it’s considered the wet season.

Just keep in mind that Thailand is a tropical paradise, so rain can happen any time of the year; it’s just more likely in certain months than others.

What you need to get married in Thailand

Lastly, let’s talk paperwork. But don’t worry, getting married in Thailand is easier than it might seem!

Below are just my findings, but be sure to do your own research if you’re planning a destination wedding in Thailand, and consult anyone locally to make sure you have everything needed to make this dream a reality.

As an American citizen or permanent resident, you may not need a visa since Thailand offers 60 days of visa-free travel. The main documents you’ll need are those required for your legal marriage.

Typically, you’ll most likely need a signed affidavit, your passport, a fee of $50 for the affidavit, and another $50 for the Certified Copy.

If a certified copy is required by your Amphur (local district office), you also may need a clear copy of the first (bio-data) page of your passport. For the latest updates and detailed steps, be sure to check the official US Embassy website.

Final thoughts on Thailand wedding venues

That’s everything you need to know about planning your dream destination wedding in Thailand! Start by deciding whether you’re drawn to the mountains, the beach, or maybe a bit of both, and then choose your location based on that vibe.

Be sure to check out the venues I’ve recommended for each spot and find one that feels just right. Next, gather all the paperwork I mentioned, and then it’s time to start packing!

And if you’re looking for a destination wedding photographer who’s all about capturing those tiny, emotional moments that will transport you back to your tropical wedding every time you look at the photos, let’s chat!

I’d be thrilled to celebrate with you and capture every little bit of this journey!
